Sodexo, Inc. Chooses DataWorks’ NeXT Inventory Management Software for Retail Initiative

(Bonita Springs, FL – April 11, 2011) DataWorks, Inc. is pleased to announce Sodexo, Inc., a leading provider of Comprehensive Service Solutions, has chosen NeXT® as their inventory control software for Re:sourxe by Sodexo, their North American healthcare retail initiative. Sodexo developed Re:sourxe to provide hospitals with a full-service retail consumer engagement platform, including retail stores onsite at hospitals. Sodexo’s retail platform features relevant products to meet the needs of employees, patients, and visitors.

Guy Ardizoni, VP of Sales and Marketing for DataWorks, said that NeXT was selected for its enterprise inventory management system. NeXT is a scalable solution that will grow with Sodexo’s evolving needs, and includes multi-store service location management with individual and consolidated reporting. Yet it is controlled from one central location. This allows for more functionality at the store level, as well as streamlined communication between the facilities’ management sites.

“We are delighted to become a part of Sodexo’s retail efforts in healthcare and look forward to assisting them as they create an efficiently run retail operation,” said Mark Cecil, DataWorks President and CEO. “They are such an impressive and well-run company that we feel honored to be part of this initiative. Communications at all levels have to be clear, and information has to be passed along quickly in the retail environment; that’s where our decades of expertise come in to play. We are thrilled to have been chosen as the vendor of choice.”

Sodexo will be able to utilize NeXT as a central point of inventory management, where multiple locations and departments can control inventory for a specific store, while the finance department can obtain a global picture of the company’s inventory, sales and purchases in real-time.

DataWorks’ NeXT Inventory Software Enhances Microsoft RMS Point-of-Sale for Dealers

(Bonita Springs, FL – December 14, 2010)

DataWorks, Inc., a Florida-based software development company, has announced its premier inventory software, NeXT®, now enhances the capabilities of Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS). This recent software development enables NeXT to serve as the purchasing, inventory operations and customer management headquarters (HQ) for RMS users. Interfacing with NeXT expands RMS’s capabilities, and dealers of the product will be able to maximize the number of users more easily for their clients.

“DataWorks has been serving and focusing within the hospitality, leisure and resort markets for the past 15 years. However, DataWorks began as a retail management system for small to mid-size retailers in the mid ‘80s. The connection to and vast knowledge of this market has allowed DataWorks to create the interface to Microsoft’s RMS more easily. RMS is a great product; however, it seems to max out at about 20 stores. Our product will allow dealers to go further and expand the product even more for their clients because our latest release of NeXT. This release resolves the issues of the number of countries, currencies, and so on, that are used by each RMS client. We believe our new release will allow dealers to work more effectively and offer a better RMS product overall,” said Mark Cecil, President and CEO of DataWorks.

Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) offers small and mid-market retailers a complete point-of-sale (POS) solution that can be adapted to meet unique retail requirements. This software package automates POS processes and store operations, provides centralized control for multi-store retailers, and integrates with Microsoft Office system programs, Microsoft Dynamics GP, and other popular applications. Microsoft Dynamics RMS is built on a proven Microsoft platform that adapts to meet unique and changing retail needs. With DataWorks’ NeXT, the product is endless.

“Clients will now be able to take advantage of two great products within their operation — DataWorks’ Next and Microsoft Dynamics RMS. The Microsoft RMS product along with Next allows clients a multitude of options when setting tracking and reporting preferences. It was a huge advantage that we had a 25-year head-start in the back office inventory management business,” says Cecil. “We saw a need and upgraded our software to interface seamlessly to the Microsoft RMS system. We believe we have created a win-win for all parties and especially for RMS dealers around the world.”

DataWorks’ NeXT® Inventory Software Installed at Award-Winning Ameristar Casinos

DataWorks’ NeXT software implemented at all six United States Ameristar Casinos.

DataWorks’ NeXT® Inventory Software Installed at Award-Winning Ameristar Casinos

DataWorks, Inc., developer of NeXT® inventory control software, is proud to announce the recent implementation of DataWorks’ NeXT software to all six of the famed Ameristar Casinos located in the United States.

Ameristar Casinos is a leading gaming and entertainment company with corporate headquarters in Las Vegas, Nevada, and additional properties located in cities nationwide. Long-time users of DataWorks original ARMS system, Ameristar felt “a need to be on the cutting edge of retail,” according to Daiva Kasemekas, Business Systems Manager for Ameristar. This imperative, along with the need for increased reporting and inventory tracking, were among the main reasons for the inventory software upgrade to NeXT. The software allows for ease of information input with elaborate tracking and reporting functions.

“The reporting has brought us to a new business level,” said Kasemekas. “We are able to outline our needs, control our inventory, and make better buying decisions based on the information easily provided us through the software.”

DataWorks installed the enterprise edition of Scaled Sardine [v6] with dual interfaces across the Ameristar network to preexisting InfoGenesis and Micros POS systems. Also activated were multiple access groups and levels of user rights for complete system control across all levels of the supply chain. Legacy data was converted out of Ameristar’s existing ARMS inventory software system. DataWorks engineers re-mapped merchandise categories, and then did an incremental data update just prior to the software ‘Go Live.’

“We began the upgrade process with Ameristar by conducting demos, providing quotes and answering RFIs in late 2008,” recounts Chuck Ginsberg, Chief Operating Officer for DataWorks. “Almost a year later, after investigating other systems, the Ameristar team chose to retain DataWorks and upgrade to NeXT. They also added their newest property, East Chicago, to the enterprise system, bringing their total sites implementing NeXT to six.” Ginsberg continued, “We couldn’t be happier to continue our partnership and provide our expertise to further enhance their retail operations.”

“Everyone at DataWorks has done an outstanding job helping resolve any issues and leading us to results in a timely manner,” adds Kasemekas. “DataWorks has a great team of individuals that led our company completely through the entire process of new software every step of the way.”

About Ameristar Casinos: Ameristar Casinos, Inc. is a leading Las Vegas-based gaming and entertainment company known for its premier properties characterized by state-of-the-art casino floors and superior dining, lodging and entertainment offerings. SmartSpoke™ Point of Sale Interface

DataWorks has always had interfaces to Point of Sale (POS) Systems. Even when we sold our own POS  back in the late 1980s and 1990s we had to create a two-way interface to talk to ourselves.

We designed and wrote the mechanics for keeping track of what data changes (deltas) needed to be sent where, we also wrote the communication layer between the back office (HQ)  and the POS that delivered  the deltas where they needed to be and also engineered the processing  of the remote changes into the local data base.

So after 20+ years of writing two-way POS  interfaces you would think we would have everything worked out.

Next week (08/09/2010) we ship SmartSpoke™, our fourth generation point of sale interface.

SmartSpoke builds on our tradition of hub and spoke design, but turns the tables on the communication layer.  SmartSpoke sits by itself on the POS computer or  server.  It uses FTPS protocol to pull inventory down from the hub and push sales and customers up to the hub.

Our HQ software – NeXT ® -prepares batches of encrypted inventory and price changes that sit behind a secured FTPS server waiting to be picked up bySmartSpoke.  NeXT also prowls around its local system seeing if any SmartSpoke system has pushed new sales or customer information up from the field.

By switching the POS communication activity to be active rather than passive we have eliminated the need for any communication listener  on the POS side. With PCI compliance issues on many folks minds, having an open FTP port on your POS system was a security risk that the CTO or IT director had to allow – not good for your mental or physical health when you worry if your POS system is going to be hacked today. The SmartSpoke is fully PCI complaint and removes any security worries.

We are shipping SmartSpoke integrated to the Microsoft Dynamics RMS Point of Sale system first.

We plan to follow the Microsoft work  with full integration to the MICROS 9700.  After that, who knows where the market will take us…

DataWorks’ NeXT® Inventory Software Implemented at World-Renowned Pebble Beach Resorts

DataWorks, Inc., developers of NeXT® inventory control software, is pleased to announce that Pebble Beach Resorts recently upgraded their retail operations to include DataWorks’ NeXT. Pebble Beach Resorts has been utilizing DataWorks’ software to manage their purchasing, warehousing and inventory control operations since 1997.

Pebble Beach Resorts, located in Pebble Beach, California, is the premier luxury golf resort in the United States. As their retail operations have grown since their hosting of the U.S. Open in 2000, so have their technology needs, which prompted the upgrade to NeXT.

“We have over 20 retail outlets, all being supplied from a central receiving warehouse,” said Dominic Van Nes, Vice President of Information Services with Pebble Beach Resorts. “Transferring inventory correctly between the different locations and the warehouse, and keeping track of all the movement, is a primary focus.”

With DataWorks’ NeXT Inventory Software, Pebble Beach Resorts has found it easier to effectively manage inventory and purchasing by using NeXT tools such as Inventory Stock-Ledger reports, Open-to- Buy, and Suggested Re-Order applications. By integrating with the PAR Springer-Miller POS system, DataWorks has streamlined accounting and allowed for real-time store operations.

“DataWorks is known world-wide as the ‘Best-of-Breed’ retail inventory control system for resorts. We got here by working with ‘Best-of-Breed’ resorts. Pebble Beach is an unparalleled property with a world-class staff — an IT department of elite professionals and a retail team that ranks in the top 1% of all retailers for analysis and sophistication. The Pebble Beach team has made our 12-year relationship very special. Pebble Beach has pushed our design envelope to encompass better forecasting and replenishment methodologies. The entire DataWorks community has benefited from this very unique partnership,” says Mark Cecil, CEO of DataWorks.

Van Nes added, “DataWorks has been in the retail inventory software business for a long time, and they have figured out what a retail operation needs from their system. They are also quick to respond to changing market strategies, and enhancing their software to take advantage of those new strategies. You can’t ask for more in a software vendor.”
