Naples, FL, United States, 02/10/2010 – DataWorks has released their NeXT Inventory Software over the internet in a “pay as you go” subscription licensing model to make it simpler for the consumer to download and profit from their services.
SaaS — delivering software over the internet — is increasingly popular for its ability to simplify deployment and reduce customer acquisition costs. It also allows developers to support many customers with a single version of a product. SaaS is also often associated with a “pay as you go” subscription licensing model.
“We are very excited about the release of NeXT as ‘Software as a Service,” said Mark Cecil, President and CEO of DataWorks, Inc. “It’s a great way to provide our inventory management software to a wider audience because of the pricing structure and simplified sales and installation processes. For many businesses, buying software is an enormous capital expense, where the product has to be sold to many people and many departments. And in today’s economy, companies do not have the capital budgets they worked with 1 or 2 years ago, so with SaaS an Owner or General Manager can have the controls they need over their inventory without a large capital outlay.”
Cecil was recently overheard telling a client about NeXT. He said, “It’s big, it’s powerful and it’s ready for you — now.”
NeXT SaaS boasts the same technology as traditional NeXT software, but is easier to fit into a budget as a monthly fee rather than a larger one-time cost. The ease of access over the internet does not require software to be purchased, installed or maintained. New updates or upgrades are made available automatically, and security, back-up, and support services are also provided, allowing users to stop stressing about their software and concentrate on their core business.
“The trend to offer Software as a Service has been the new thought process for many companies this past year. However, we believe that offering our inventory management software as a service, is unique. Since we offer a specialized product, we have a perfect solution for many potential clients who could not figure out a way to upgrade or purchase new inventory software,” said Guy Ardizoni, VP of Sales. “The combination of increasingly abundant bandwidth, improved powerful processors, and inexpensive storage is widening the choices for designing, deploying and using software.”
DataWorks’ stated benefits for using NeXT SaaS are:
No Capital Outlay
• No server hardware to purchase
• No server OS or SQL server to license
• No need to get a separate capital budget approved; pass the monthly costs through an operating budget.
Reduced need for IT Talent
• No operating system to administer
• No SQL server to administer
• No services to check
• No backups to rotate.
Faster Implementation
• Eliminates travel
• Online training
• Faster go-lives
• Corporate standards and version compatibility are more easily ensured
• Upgrades are simpler and more cost-effective
• Easier mobility and scalability
• End users can access NeXT using their PC or Mac workstations.

DataWorks’ NeXT made its debut at several prestigious properties in the third quarter of 2009. From implementing retail inventory management systems at several resorts to supplying food and beverage ordering software to Kapalua Resort in Maui, DataWorks offers feature-rich inventory solutions to all types of properties and establishments nationwide.
Kapalua Resort in Maui installed DataWorks’ complete NeXT software solution which includes:
- Retail Inventory Management
- Grocery Store Inventory Management
- Open-to-Buy
- Interface to Accounts Payable and General Ledger systems
- Interface to MICROS® 9700
DataWorks’ NeXT inventory management software interfaces to the MICROS™ 9700 POS which had already been installed at the resort. The DataWorks interface allows for seamless communication between back-of-house operations and frontline guest services. Menu items can be ordered and tracked with one touch of a button ensuring gifts and sundries are kept in stock and ready for sale.
“We are thrilled that Kapalua Resort selected NeXT to manage their inventories. Centralizing their inventories using our NeXT inventory control software allows for one-time data entry. At that point, NeXT does all the work updating the point-of-sale and the accounts payable system. This reduces data entry errors and man hours, ultimately increasing profits and providing accurate information,” said Mark Cecil, DataWorks President and CEO.
Kapalua Resort is able to utilize NeXT as a central point of inventory management where multiple departments can control inventory for their specific group while the finance department can obtain a global picture of the company’s inventory, sales and purchases.

DataWorks, Inc., an industry leader in retail and food & beverage inventory control software, is excited to announce it has recently installed its premier inventory control product, NeXT, at two prestigious resort locations.
“DataWorks’ NeXT made its debut at two prestigious properties in the third quarter of 2009. From implementing retail inventory management systems at the Aruba Marriott to supplying retail and spa operations software to Pala Casino in California — DataWorks is busy and committed to making sure when counting counts, clients can count on DataWorks,” said Mark Cecil, President and CEO.
NeXT inventory software interfaced to the Micros® 9700 POS at both properties, which allowed for seamless communication between back-of-house operations and frontline guest services. Menu items can be ordered and tracked with one touch of a button, ensuring gifts and sundries are kept in stock and ready for sale.
Pala Casino has been a DataWorks retail software customer for the past nine years. The decision to upgrade to DataWorks’ NeXT inventory software was made earlier this year and was chosen to track inventory for the award-winning Pala Spa located at the Pala Casino property. NeXT interfaced to their Micros 9700 POS.
The Aruba Marriott has been a DataWorks customer since 2003. Choosing to upgrade to NeXT enables the Aruba Marriott to use the multi-currency and multi-language features in NeXT. They are utilizing the interface application developed and written by DataWorks that seamlessly updates retail inventory items and retrieves sales from the Micros 9700 POS.
“We are really excited that Aruba Marriott has chosen to continue its relationship with DataWorks and will use NeXT to drive their retail profits. NeXT was designed for the global market and Aruba Marriott will be able to use NeXT to the fullest in this regard,” said Matthew Kellas, Director of Implementations and Training for DataWorks.
